Synthetic Grass Information
Synthetic grass is a commercial sports and playground surfacing product comprised of very thin nylon, polyethylene or polypropene fibres bonded to a backing mat to form a homogeneous roll of turf which replicates the properties of real grass and is installed as a replacement for natural grass.
The term “synthetic grass” encompasses a wide variety of synthetic commercial flooring terms including, artificial grass, fake grass, synthetic lawn and astro turf, among others, which may be used interchangeably.
Synthetic grass has come a long way since the 1960’s when it was developed by David Chaney of the Northern Carolina State University to be installed and used in the word famous Astrodome as a replacement for the natural grass football field.
Innovative synthetic grass manufacturers and installers have since developed a wide range of fake grass surfacing products which can replicate the specific and otherwise inherent properties of natural grass used in sports such as tennis, cricket, hockey, lawn bowls, soccer or football; artificial turf varieties which are suited for safe play playground construction; and domestic or landscaping products which are sought after over natural grass for their superior aesthetics.

Softfall Synthetic Grass
If you require synthetic grass for a playground, pre-school, childcare centre or some other safe play application, our artificial turf can be installed over our synthetic or organic softfall products.
Softfall is required to create a safe play surface in children’s play areas. A layer of our softfall product is installed between the ground basework and synthetic grass to create an impact absorbing layer that reduces or eliminates the risk of injury to kids when using the playground.
All our synthetic grass softfall products comply with Australian Standards AS/NZS 4422:1996 and AS 4685:2014 and we can arrange softfall testing on request.
We use Playlawn synthetic grass for softfall synthetic grass playgrounds because of its lush appearance, hard wearing properties and economical price point. Large areas of a playground or safe play area may be covered.
